The Too-Short Reunion

Mr. Yarnworks could walk in the door at any time. Last I heard, he thought he'd fly into Sioux Falls on Monday afternoon, but said he wouldn't get his itinerary until he got to Kuwait. Well, he told me that on Friday and was supposed to fly into Kuwait on Saturday. He said he would email or call as soon as he could after that. Now it's 1am Monday morning and I still have no idea if he's going to surprise me by bounding in the door or if I'll get an email that his flight into Kuwait was delayed and it'll be a month before he's home. No clue. This is probably the worst part. Especially for the control freak in me. I'm not ready at all. The house is a disaster. I tried to clean today, but when I tried to put away laundry, Baby Yarnworks got into some leftover birthday cake (birthday party pics coming soon) and got icing all over the newly mopped kitchen floor. While cleaning that up, she spilled some beads. I finally just gave up. After all, it might be days or weeks before it really truly needs to be clean, right?

Tomorrow morning I'll drop the kids off at daycare as early as I can and make the best of the house and of me. Gosh, I'm a mess too! Where's the genie that can help me drop 40 lbs in a blink when I need her?

If you don't hear from me for awhile...that's good news. ;)

Pictures!

Since my last two posts have been completely devoid of pictures, I owe you something, right?

As you might recall, we moved into our new house about 3 months ago, but moved VERY last minute because we found mold. I didn't purge or organize or do anything in preparation for the move. I just had some friends over to dump things into boxes and we moved it all here. I'm still working on unpacking! But thankfully, our new house is in the PERFECT location for a yard sale, so here we are. It was a very WINDY 68 degrees out and as you can see, our yard is quite shaded. Good for the summer electric bill, bad for getting sun to warm us up.

This was my view from my chair, where I spent about 50% of the day chatting with my friends or knitting. Four of us donated items to the sale.

The view from the street. A lot of the larger items went first, so that was great! Though our selection was looking a bit sad by the end of the day.

So what was I knitting? I was hoping you'd ask! This one is actually for ME! And I'm using a pattern with ZERO adaptations. I think this is a record for me. Take a moment to enjoy the uniqueness of what you're about to see. hehe.

Pattern: Earth-Toned Wrap
Designer: C. Lee Goss
From: Knitter's Magazine 61, Winter 2000
Yarn: Malabrigo Silky Merino
Fiber Content: 50% Silk, 50% Baby Merino Wool
Yardage: approx 150 yards per 50g skein (DK weight)--I have 4 skeins and am hoping that's enough.
Colorway: 416 Indiecita
Needles: US10
This is a really simple pattern. The only hard part is keeping upw ith the 16 rows of the pattern, though most are knit or purl rows with only 2 true pattern rows in that 16 row repeat. This is the perfect pattern for doing while watching tv or hanging out at a yard sale. Like I said, it's rare for me to follow a pattern without feeling the need to make a bunch of changes. I think that says a lot for this particular pattern and designer.
I should also probably mention that Knitter's Magazine is probably my favorite knitting magazine on the market. They have lots of great patterns, enriching and informative articles, and the format of the magazine is clear and concise. You don't have to go online to get any of their patterns, or turn to page 312 for the last 3 lines of a pattern. And this magazine is local, making it the only really cool knitting thing we have going on for miles.

Random Updates

In my blogging ineptitude, I realize that I've left some things hanging. If I've forgotten anything, let me know and I'll post an update on whatever that is too.

First, YES, the lady who hired me to crochet the tablecloth DID get in touch with me and it is now with its rightful owner and I have been paid. It was an exhausting project, but I feel really good about it. Would I do it again? Well, they want me to. I guess I will have to gauge my life whenever they are ready and decide then.

No, Sherman and LaLa are not on my craft room wall yet. I need frames. I've been very lax in the frame shopping department. I will take donations though. 10x10 please. :)

Mr. Yarnworks is doing fine, though obviously missing home. He should be home soon on his 2 weeks of leave. We thought he might be able to make it home next week, but that didn't quite work out. Now, with sandstorm season in full force over there, he could be even later than we'd originally expected. Hopefully he will be here by months' end.

JL Yarnworks is still plugging along even if it doesn't look like much is happening right now. Sales are a bit slow, but there are big plans for our future here at Chez Yarnworks. Want some hints? Check out the very beginnings of a website. A real honest-to-goodness e-commerce site in which yours truly has full control over style, content, and fees! I'm also working on some new products, including some new patterns, and I am registered to be a vendor at my first fiber fair in September. It will be the North Country Fiber Fair in Watertown, SD.

Baby Yarnworks has not had her surgery yet. She has one more consultation at the end of this month in Des Moines if we're not flooded out. From there, we will be scheduling her surgery, probably for late this summer.

I think that's essentially all of it. If I've missed something, please remind me!

Excuses

I know it's been awhile, but I have really good excus....reasons.

First, I worked really really hard on a new pattern that I can't really talk about yet. But whenever and wherever it is available, I will certainly let you know. As a little hint, I'll just say that it was loosely inspired by the Twilight series of books by Stephenie Meyer. I don't think I've ever knit quite so much in such a short period of time in my life. Even the Knitting Olympics a couple years ago didn't have me knitting quite so much.

Speaking of the Knitting Olympics...I cannot figure out what I want to do for the summer games. I keep thinking about challenging myself to knit faster, but I'm not sure how to go about doing that.

Anyway, then last week I went in to have a cavity filled. The cavity was behind a composite fillign and apparently that composite was blocking the majority of the damage from the xray. 3/4 of my tooth broke off when they tried to drill it. So they ended up having to extract the tooth. I'm still on Darvocet and it still aches.

AND, the day before I had to have my pattern finished, my new laptop crashed. It's only 2 months old! Thankfully I was able to get into it to save my stuff to a thumb drive and load it up on the desktop or I would have been in a pissy mood for weeks! I was alllllllmost done, and then WHAM! Isn't that always the way it works? It's in the shop now; wish it luck.

I'm also prepping for a yard sale next weekend, so there's been lots of sorting and purging going on in Chez Yarnworks.

And then, the best news, is that by the 24th, hubby should be home on leave from Iraq for 2 weeks. We're due in Des Moines again to meet with Baby Yarnworks' surgeon on the 25th, so hopefully he won't be delayed anymore. He was originally due home on the 18th, but they've delayed it twice now. *Fingers crossed*

So I've lost a tooth and a laptop, but I met my deadline! I was very pleased about that.

I'm already working on a couple new patterns. Hopefully I'll have some pictoral evidence of that very soon!
